{HMW} Are You Running Low on Vitamin P? The Essential Nutrient Your Wellness Routine Is Missing

Dear Reader,

The science of happiness tells us that it's not the grand gestures but the tiny pleasures that sustain our wellbeing. Research from positive psychology suggests that our brains respond more powerfully to frequent small doses of joy than to occasional big wins—it's why that first sip of morning coffee or the unexpected text from a friend can feel so transformative.

Think of pleasure as a nutrient your nervous system needs daily.

When we're feeling stressed or overwhelmed, we often focus on eliminating stressors (which is important!), but we forget to actively cultivate the opposite: moments of genuine delight that balance the equation.

As the days get longer and slowly warmer, I've been experimenting with consciously "collecting" small joys throughout my day—the morning light on my kitchen counter, the perfect crunch of a Gala apple, the comfort of sliding into clean sheets and under my weighted blanket at night.

I'm noticing that when I deliberately seek these micro-moments of pleasure, my overall stress resilience improves dramatically.

What if you created your own "joy menu" this week? A list of reliable little pleasures you can turn to when you need a mood boost. It might include sensory delights (a favorite scent, a specific song), connection moments (texting an old friend), or physical sensations (stretching your body just right).

The beauty of this approach is that it puts you in the driver's seat of your emotional wellbeing. Rather than waiting for happiness to find you, you become the architect of your own nervous system regulation.

What tiny pleasure could you gift yourself in the next hour? Your brain—and body—will thank you for it.

Ingredient Spotlight:

Walnuts

Walnuts bring both a satisfying crunch and impressive health benefits to your meals. These brain-shaped nuts are packed with omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and plant compounds that fight inflammation, supporting brain function and gut health.

Just a small handful daily has been linked to improved cognition and reduced risk of heart disease. Their buttery, slightly sweet flavor makes them versatile in both sweet and savory dishes.

Try them toasted and sprinkled over salads, blended into creamy dips, mixed into morning oatmeal, or folded into brownies for added texture. They even make an excellent meat substitute when ground and seasoned in plant-based dishes!

Store them in the refrigerator or freezer to preserve their delicate oils and prevent them from going rancid too quickly.
