{HMW} The reason motivation isn't showing up β€” and what to do instead

Dear Reader,

A lot of my clients tell me they lack motivation. That may be true β€” because motivation is fleeting and rarely shows up when we need it most.

But there's a way to reverse engineer it so it's almost always available. It's called focusing on MOMENTUM instead.

🌿 Momentum is that feeling of soaring when someone pushes your boat off a dock on a windy day.

🌿 Momentum is the effortless ascension once the spark to take action is lit.

🌿 Momentum requires no force, strain, or willpower.

But it doesn't appear out of thin air. It has to come from taking an initial step. Many of us feel those sparks but don't act on them fast enough β€” and the longer we wait, the more self-doubt, old beliefs, and sabotage creep in to talk us out of it.

Here are 3 ways to bypass motivation and move straight into momentum:

βœ… Feel your fear or discomfort and take one small step anyway. A 10-minute walk. One vegetable today. One small action.

βœ… Focus on the PROCESS, not the outcome. Visualize yourself actually taking the steps β€” imagine getting out the ingredients for that healthy smoothie you want to make tomorrow morning.

βœ… Expect setbacks. When they arrive, skip the "See, I knew I couldn't do it" spiral. Dust off, find some compassion, and do the next best thing.

Staying in action keeps us out of all-or-nothing thinking β€” and away from the inner critic just waiting to tell us we haven't done "enough."

What are your methods for staying motivated and building momentum around a newer, more fragile health behavior?

And if you want to go deeper on topics like this, come join me over at Just One More Bite β€” I'd love to have you there.

5-Senses Sunday:

This week's 5-Senses Sunday goes from snack aisles in Greece to phantom smells, birdsong appreciated equally by frogs and humans, and the surprisingly well-documented urge to touch artwork in museums.

I also admitted to a guilty pleasure I've been keeping to myself β€” and shared a decade-by-decade look at home design trends from 1940 to 2015 so you can see exactly what aesthetic dominated the year you were born.

Navigating the Middle Years Bundle

There's a particular kind of stuck that shows up in midlife that doesn't get talked about enough; The quiet realization that what used to work isn't quite working anymore, and you're not sure what to try next.

I am featured in a bundle called Navigating The Middle Years and contributed my 5-Day Energy Reset to it. The Reset is built around the idea that energy isn't one-size-fits-all. Depending on your pattern (Morning Fader, Slow Starter, or Energy Fluctuator), the strategies that actually move the needle are different. It identifies your type and gives you the food, timing, and nervous system tools to match.

The full bundle has 50+ resources covering energy, hormones, confidence, and practical resets that don't require overhauling your life. It's free right now, for a limited time.

Don't leave it in a tab. You know what happens to those.
