{HMW} The One Thing Every Person Needs This Week

Dear Reader,

I just spent 3 days with one of my oldest and dearest friends from high school and it reminded me how important it is to nurture and continue to cultivate the fulfilling relationships we have in our lives. It also reminded me that online interactions don't quite cut it for me as I much prefer face to face connections with my loved ones.

✔️ We got lost in Boston (even with 2 gps apps going)

✔️Ate our way through Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market

✔️Lounged at a cape cod resort pool and beach (using resortpass.com)

✔️And laughed incessantly, which as any other middle age, peri/menopause woman knows, can be dangerous in the bladder department.

Studies have shown that even weak connection encounters - like talking to your Starbucks barista or rolling down the window in your car to thank the crossing guard at your kids' school, are important for our mental health, sense of social cohesion and to remind us of our shared humanity.

There isn't a person I know who is not going through some serious stuff right now. Even if it's uncomfortable, conflicts with your schedule or you just want to hide in your introverted bubble, I recommend reaching out to one person this week for an in-person hangout.

There is a good chance that you will feel more understood, less alone in your stress and you just might even pee in your pants with screaming laughter.

Ingredient Spotlight:

Persimmon

Often mistaken for a tomato at first glance, the persimmon delivers a honey-like sweetness that transforms simple dishes into something memorable. Two main varieties dominate markets: the astringent Hachiya, which needs to ripen until completely soft and jammy, and the crisp Fuyu, which you can slice and eat like an apple.

The fruit's natural sugars concentrate as it ripens, making it perfect for both fresh eating and cooking. Try adding diced Fuyu persimmons to winter salads for unexpected sweetness, or let overripe Hachiyas become the base for quick breads and puddings. Their smooth texture works beautifully in smoothies, while dried persimmons offer an intensely sweet snack that keeps well through winter.

Persimmons peak from October through December, so grab them while their vibrant orange color brightens the market. Just remember: patience pays off with Hachiyas, but Fuyus reward immediate gratification.

Announcements & Upcoming:

The Learn it Summit is coming soon!

Michael Jackson sang “Beat It”, and it was part of my friend Jessyka Coulter’s inspiration for her 2025 back-to-school event. (embed link)

She’s ready for teens to “Learn It!”

In fact, she’s going further: “Learn it. Just Learn it. Open your teen’s mind and feed it.” It looks like she’s left Michael Jackson and moved on to “Weird Al”

Regardless, she’s invited me to be a part of her back-to-school event, and I’m excited about it. In my interview, I’m sharing about how to help your teen nourish themselves during their first year of college.

For one week, starting August 4th, new pre-recorded interviews will be released every day.
