{HMW} The eating audit: a simple check-in before you take your first bite π
|
Dear Reader, I love learning about who people are as eaters. Their food memories, the traditions from childhood, the way those early experiences still shape what they reach for now. It's one of my favorite things to explore with clients. One practice I keep coming back to is what I call the "eating audit." These are four simple questions to ask yourself before you even take a bite. One caveat though - when you answer these four questions, it's not about getting it right or judging the answer but just to understand yourself a little better. Ready for the questions? Is this a physical hunger or emotional hunger? (bonus: how do you know?) Am I craving something in particular (texture, flavor profile)? Am I relaxed and undistracted? Am I eating this just because itβs there? Try this eating audit next time you find yourself scrounging through the pantry or when you are about to make your next meal. Let me know what insights you glean from this exercise. (obviously for entertainment purposes only) Made it: β5-Senses Sundayβ Summer comes with its own sensory language: watermelon, chlorine, the crackle of a cold seltzer, sailboats on the dock. This week's 5-Senses Sunday walks through each sense and offers a simple prompt for each one, so you can notice and savor the season instead of just moving through it.
Want it: This was surprisingly satisfying β These health trackers are getting out of hand....and yet.β Ingredient Spotlight: Sea Moss I first encountered sea moss in 2020 during my culinary nutrition certification. My immediate reaction was: no way. It's slippery, it smells faintly of the ocean, and raw, it looks like something that washed up on a beach. But once I learned what was in it, I gave it a second chance, which is kind of the whole point. In gel form, sea moss is nearly flavorless with a faint mineral quality that vanishes the moment you blend it with anything. Raw or dried, the texture is slippery and the smell is distinctly oceanic. The gel and capsule forms sidestep all of that. The gel stores in the fridge for up to a month and dissolves into drinks or oatmeal without a trace. Nutritional profile: β Ways to use it: Blend 1 tsp of gel into a smoothie with pineapple, ginger, and coconut milk Stir into herbal tea with honey Use as a natural thickener in soups or dressings Take capsules if texture is a dealbreaker >>> Get 3 sea moss drink recipes hereβ And now a quick word from our sponsor! ππΌ Announcements & Upcoming: βThe Sunshine Shift waitlist is liveβ On June 29th, Iβm contributing my Powering up your Day workshopβ normally $25 β to the Sunshine Shift Bundle.
