Ingredient Spotlight:

Guava

Don't let guava's humble, green exterior fool youβ€”this tropical fruit packs serious flavor complexity. With flesh that ranges from white to deep pink, guavas offer a sweet-tart taste that's been described as a cross between strawberry and pear, with floral notes that linger on the palate.

Eat them fresh (yes, seeds and all), blend them into smoothies, or simmer them down into jams and sauces. They're particularly beloved in Latin American and Southeast Asian cuisines, where they appear in everything from pastries to savory chutneys.

Nutritionally, guavas deliver more vitamin C than oranges and provide a good dose of fiber. Look for fruits that yield slightly to pressure and have that telltale sweet scent.
