Dear Reader, Pre P.S. - **Heads up that on May 18th, I'm opening something I've been working on and upgrading for months. Maybe it's your gutβ We got these Made Good Organic Granola Bites at Costco and I cannot get enough of them. Especially the mixed berry flavor. Made it: β5-Senses Sunday:β There's a compound in Bradford pear trees β the ones blooming all over the Northeast right now β that attracts flies instead of bees. It's the same compound found in semen. This is why spring smells the way it sometimes does. βThis week's 5-Senses Sunday also covers why Gen Z has officially validated solo dining (and why I've been doing it for years), the research on infrasound and why certain rooms just feel wrong, the measurable health benefits of going out in the rain, and an artist who builds mind-bending optical illusions entirely out of trash. βMy Favorite Reads in April:β What a great month to read given the quasi-spring weβre having here in Boston. Itβs been cool (mid-50βs-low 60βs) dreary (except for the flowers and trees starting to bloom) and weather that begs you to open up a cozy book. Here are 6 of my favorites from the past month.β Want it: Hubby and I are going away just the two of us at the end of the month and I'm looking to get a pair of relatively comfortable but cute and sexy going out shoes. I like this one and this one the most. They're both so different. Which one should I get?
Ingredient Spotlight: Heirloom Tomatoes There is something magical about heirloom tomatoes. Like a sourdough starter, the seeds of heirlooms get passed down from generation to generation. For me, its the abundance of colors and quirky shapes that makes me really appreciate them. I also think they almost always taste sweeter than regular tomatoes and are almost never as mealy as some can get. If I have friends over in the backyard during the summer, I love slicing these up with some basil and fresh salt, a splash of good quality EVOO and a drizzle of balsamic glaze and its always fan favorite. Like with all tomatoes, heirlooms - depending on the color offer an array of phytonutrients and vitamins. While technically considered a fruit, I'm a-ok with you adding it to your veggie tally for the day as well. Enjoy! Here are 22 additional recipes to try with heirloom tomatoesβ Announcements & Upcoming: One of the most disorienting things about midlife is that the advice available to women hasn't really caught up to it. The strategies are often designed for younger bodies in steadier hormonal states. And when those strategies stop working, the response from most of the wellness world is: try harder, track more, restrict further. That's a frustrating place to be. But it's also not the whole picture. I'm passing along a bundle that I think addresses some of this gap. The EmpowerHer Midlife Bundle brings together 20+ expert resources specifically for women in this stage: hormones, gut health, energy, nutrition, and what actually tends to work when the old playbook doesn't. I've added my own resource to the mix as well: The Conscious Eating Toolkit βHere's your access linkβ It's available at no cost right now. IMO - It's worth it if you even find 1 or 2 resources that support you during this time of life.
Next Week - The Pretty Productive Bundle is going live. Extra Bytes: What I'm Reading: Mattering, by Jennifer Breheny Wallace What I'm Watching: All her Faultβ What I'm Listening to: Calm Productivity Mixβ What I'm Eating: French Lentil Bowls with Pesto, cashew "cheese", walnut-roasted peppersβ That's it for me this week.
